Find your purpose, your calling, your reason why

Find It – Your True Calling From Within

It is pretty common these days to hear people talk about finding your why, your calling, or your purpose. It is as if we have started searching for something more than what we are receiving today. There is a general sense of yearning or a cry that says, “Is this all that there is?”

The unfortunate thing is that many of us will never start this search. Some may start but never find the answer. There are a few, however, that will get it right and live the life they imagined.

Here are a few pointers to help you on your journey to finding YOUR WHY:

1. It is a process of trial and error

You will have to experiment and take some chances until you discover what you were meant to do. It is a process of action, in that you can’t just long for the answer. You have to try a few things out.

Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen."

Michael Jordan

2. What do you do that causes you to lose track of time?

There are certain situations where we get lost in what we are doing, so much that we lose a sense of time or location. If you're not sure of the answer now, start paying attention. Keep a journal and write it down when it happens to you.

3. Ask your friends what they think comes natural to you

Most of us can’t see clearly how we are perceived. It is important to raise our level of self-awareness, but some things about ourselves can only be seen through the eyes of others. We can all probably remember those people who had the courage to tell us the truth about what they see in us.

4. Take a personality assessment (or a couple of them)

There are several good ones out there. The Kolbe Index is one of my favorites. Some other personality tests can be found here. Just be careful when taking any assessment test not to confuse your skill sets with your talents as they may not always be the same. Be careful not to label yourself or others based on these tests. They are only meant to be a guide for you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.

5. It's a Growth Process

Be comfortable in knowing that working on your calling is a never-ending growth process. If you like something . . . if you feel passionate about it . . . learn more and investigate deeper. Chances are, you may never arrive at the ending, but more than likely, your true calling will manifest and your life's journey will begin.

Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be. . .close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before."

Erich Fromm

6. Serve Others

You may find that your true calling will, in some degree, involve serving others. The most fulfilling roles tend to include a facet that focuses on helping others in need. There is a kind of magic found in assisting those who can’t help themselves. The people that are lucky enough to selflessly serve others and experience this magic, will find that the rewards they reap are far greater than they ever dreamed.

The exhilaration in finding what you were meant to do comes from the process of discovery. This journey is an adventure in self-awareness, both joyful and rich in blessings.
